As someone who has gotten used to the wonderful MN state parks, I have to remember to lower my expectations when visiting surrounding states. For example: this park apparently does not think it useful to have trash cans anywhere, which results in trash strewn about the whole place. Trails are not marked. Maintenance is at a minimum. Does Iowa have park rangers? I've visited a handful of their parks and never seen one. The park itself was pretty, but nothing spectacular. Walking through the streams was a lot of fun, as well as some of the hilly trails. Sitting by the river is a nice view as well. If I lived nearby or was passing through I'd certainly stop, but I would not go out of my way to visit.

If you're in the area looking for a state park, definitely choose the ledges. There are camping options, abundant trails, and a cool road that you can drive across the stream. Bring out your family for a picnic, your friends for a walk in the woods, or just come out and enjoy the woods yourself!

This is a beautiful park with tent/trailer/RV camping facilities. The walk up and down the road/trail is fairly easy. Lots of families with small children are here every sunny weekend making the hike. There are lots of places where the stream crosses the road and kids can play in the water.

Iowa at it's best. Beautiful views and well maintained trails. All levels of difficulty. Good facilities.

Beautiful park for the family to spend a day together. Small streams, meadows and scenic overlooks. Looking out over the Des Moines River is surprisingly high and a rare view in a state without mountains. Trails are well maintained but unmarked. This results in hikers asking one another where they are at and how do they get to certain points. Little confusing in trying to navigate without feeling like your repeating same trail. Needing to update with clear markings for all to use easily and get the fullest effect of the park. Overall great park for Iowa.
